James (Jim) Burd Brewster was raised in Albany, NY, learned to sail on Lake Champlain, navigated a Polar Icebreaker for the US Coast Guard, and married Katie Spivey from Wilmington, NC. While living in Baltimore, MD, Jim told Ben and Luke (their oldest two children at the time) the Uncle Rocky, Fireman stories, which 23 years later became the “Glad to do it!”© series of children’s picture books. Now empty nester’s, Katie and Jim enjoy assembling picture puzzles while listening to Washington National’s baseball games.

James (Jim) Burd Brewster is an accomplished public speaker and presenter who is out-going, interesting, and entertaining as well. He has presented at writers’ conferences, teacher’s conventions, and schools on the East Coast. He thoroughly enjoys school visits and reading to kids, where he hopes the "Glad To Do It!"© message of his books will encourage children to serve others with a happy heart.
school visits
Jim Brewster loves to do school visits, best for ages K-3. He charges $210/visit which includes a complete set of 21 "Glad To Do It!" books for the school’s classroom or library. His program is interactive with students putting on a real fire coat and helmet for pictures and then acting out along with Uncle Rocky, Officer Jack, and EMT Morales as he reads the stories. In each 45-60 minute visit, Jim will read two “Glad to do it!” books, have students wear the coat and helmet, teach students to say “Glad to do it!” and answer questions.
