The wonderful writing of this book provides a great opportunity to practice sentence variety. Here's a free printable that explains how and why sentence lengths should vary with a paragraph for your kiddos to practice with.Science
Flashing Light Bulb Experiment
One of the steps the EMTs take to race to the emergency is flicking on the flashing lights of the ambulance. If you want to wow your kiddos with a simple light experiment, this is the one. It's super easy, and they can even make the light flash! What you need:- 1.5 volt lightbulb (we removed ours from a standard flashlight)
- D Cell battery or larger (we used 6-volt battery because we had it in our science kit)
- 6 inches copper wire
- Knife or wire strippers for striping wire
- Strip about 1/2 inch of the insulation from both ends of the wire
- If you're using a D cell battery, tape one end of the stripped wire to the negative or bottom side of the battery
- If you're using a 6-volt like we did, wrap one end of the wire around the negative post
- Make a loop in the other end of the wire that the metal base of the light bulb will sit in. Make sure the copper is touching the metal
- Holding the wire, touch the bottom of the light bulb to the positive end (or post) of the battery
- Light!
- To make it flash, simply move the bottom of the light bulb off the positive and back on
Craft

- Place the acini de pepe along the line for the spine
- Below the skull, glue a piece of elbow macaroni on either side of the spine for the shoulders
- Glue a piece of penne below each shoulder for the arms
- At the base of the spine, glue a piece of elbow macaroni on either side for the hips

- Glue a piece of elbow macaroni below each upper leg for the knees
- Glue another piece of penne below each of the knees for the lower legs
- Break a piece of spaghetti into 20 small pieces and glue 5 of the pieces below the arms and legs for the fingers and toes
