“Petey Washburn,” Daddy said, “Gramma needs more milk. How about you and I walk to the corner store and get some for her?” Meet Petey Washburn. He is seven and is named after his dad, Pete, but everyone calls him Petey. Its Christmas, they are at Gramma’s house and she needs milk. When he and his dad step outside, they see their breath in the cold air and pretend they are railroad trains. Their fun stops when a lady slips and falls in front of them, spilling her groceries across the sidewalk. Petey and his dad rush to her aid. Petey gathers her groceries while his dad helps the lady to her feet. Together, they safely walk the lady home, but now the store is closed and they have no milk for Gramma. “Petey,” Daddy said, “What do you think the women folk will say when we come home late and without any milk?
